The DUI Level I Drug and Alcohol Education Course includes a substance abuse evaluation and 12 hours of instruction designed to expose the DUI client with one alcohol- or drug-related traffic arrest/conviction to the issues regarding the use of alcohol and drugs.
Substance Abuse Evaluation
• Includes a one-hour, face-to-face substance abuse evaluation, completed by a certified DUI Evaluator
• Consists of written diagnostic tests, along with a comprehensive psychosocial evaluation
• Evaluation must be completed prior to class participation (when feasible)
DUI Level I Course Content
• Instructional & interactive education (12 hrs)
• Behavioral objectives for participants, including personal choices
• A review of Florida’s DUI laws
• A review of the DUI process as it applies to the court system and the Florida DHSMV
• Substance abuse, chemical dependency and other issues
Goals of DUI First Offender (Level I) Education
• Define the DUI problem that affects individuals and society as a whole
• Provide information on the effects and consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs
• Assist participants in self-assessing the nature of their problem as it relates to driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs
• Develop alternatives to impaired driving
• Link participants to community resources
